Louis Kelley Riedel


From Harbor Beach, Mi. enlisted (Pvt. Inf.) Ft. Custer July 1942. Basic, Radio Tech. and Non-Com School Camp Wolters, Tx. (Cpl. Inf.) Ft. Benning, Ga. OCS (2nd Lt. Inf.) Transferred to San Francisco where he supervised the loading of deck cargo on army ships until July 1944. (1st Lt. Inf.) Then reassigned 97th Div., 303rd Inf. Camp Cooke, Ca. Served in France, Germany - where a farmer informed him that President Roosevelt had died - and Czechoslovakia until European war ended. Returned to the U.S. June, 1945. The 97th then proceeded to the Pacific Theater where they performed occupation duties in Japan. Promoted to Charley Co. Commander. As Asst. School Director he helped form the 303rd Inf. school to teach technical courses as well as high school and college courses. Was separated (Capt. Inf.) at Ft. Wayne, Mi. Army Hospital in July, 1946. /n
